“I love helping kids learn to read!

Jim Munroe’s journey to writing children’s books began 25 years ago, when his daughter had trouble learning to read. He had already written hundreds of poems in rhyme and knew that it was a fun way to form new words out of just one simple word like the word…at.

During this time, Jim began seeing funny things while shopping or watching tv or surfing the internet. These funny things turned into book ideas and once the idea took hold, a story began to unfold. He tested the stories on his daughters and many of his friends who had young children and they all said the same thing. “These are funny!” “My kids loved it!” “Where are the illustrations?” From there, more ideas and stories formed and in 2006, Jim joined the Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).

Like most of us, life can get busy and time seems to just fly by. By now, Jim’s daughters were grown and there was a young granddaughter too. During covid, Jim began to pursue with renewed interest in having one of his books published. After looking at a host of options, Jim decided to have Parson’s Porch, a small publisher in Tennessee, publish the first one of his stories and “The Sneezing Toucan” was published in 2021.

Since publication, “The Sneezing Toucan” has flown to nearly forty states and a couple of places overseas. It received a 5 Star review from Readers Favorite and has been downloaded over 65,000 times on the popular worldwide podcast, sleeptightstories.org. Jim has appeared at a number of Meet the Author events at schools and libraries in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia and his book was recently added to the Wake County Public Library System in Raleigh, NC.

When he’s not writing children’s books, Jim enjoys playing in a pool league, DIY home repairs, gardening and landscaping. He is the father of two daughters and one granddaughter. He served in the United States Navy Submarine Service and is currently an Energy Trader for a large energy services company.
